GWMS Announcements

JOIN IN! GEAR UP for Owen!

On Wednesday, June 17th (3:15pm)  the teachers and staff at GW will be walking through Ridgewood to increase awareness of fundraising efforts for Owen Betrus, the son of colleague Rob Betrus (Monroe 8 Math).

Owen was diagnosed at birth with quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy.  He was also diagnosed with Cortical Visual Impairment just before his first birthday, and with Intractable Epilepsy at the age of three.  Despite these challenges Owen (6 years old) is generally happy and full of life and energy.  He is curious about the world around him and makes every attempt to participate fully in any task presented to him. He loves to be active and spend time with his parents, twin brother, Liam, and little brother, Quinn.

The “Gear Up for Owen” walk will be raising money to help the Betrus family fund an adaptive ramp for their minivan.

We have created a GoFundMe page for Owen at www.gofundme.com/gearup4owen   Please visit the site to learn more about how you can help support our efforts.  We also invite you to join the the GW staff and the Betrus family as we walk through town to help bring awareness to the different challenges Owen faces.  We will be gathering at the GW Field at 3:15.

If any student wishes to join us, they must see Mrs. Grasso for a field trip form which will need to be signed prior to the walk.    If you can't join us and will be in town after school, please look for us walking to give Owen a high five!

Summer Reading 2015

GW students are expected to read a minimum of 3 books over the summer. The books can be any appropriate books.  Take a look at our Literary Lineup Newsletter for a great list of suggested new and popular titles.

Students should keep a log of their 3 books plus anything else read over the summer. Complete the form on the back of the newsletter and bring it to English class in September.

Visit the Media Center webpage to view the Lit Lineup Newsletter and the 6th grade House favorites list.
